MUO - Standard of Care (SoC) for Malignancy of Undefined Origin
The UKAOS MUO group are pleased to announce the publication of the UKAOS Metastatic Unknown Origin (MUO) Standard of Care document.
Developed by UKAOS multidisciplinary experts, this document provides evidence-based recommendations for the assessment, investigation, management, and supportive care of patients presenting with MUO. The guidance is aligned with current NICE recommendations and incorporates the principles of the Faster Diagnosis Standard, supporting timely investigation, efficient diagnostic pathways, and prompt access to appropriate treatment and supportive care.
The document aims to promote a consistent, high-quality approach to MUO management across the UK, reducing variation in practice and ensuring patients receive coordinated, person-centred care throughout their diagnostic and treatment journey.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all those who contributed their expertise, time, and commitment to the development of this important resource.
The document is now available to access here.
We encourage colleagues to review the guidance and consider how the recommendations can be implemented within local services to further improve outcomes and experiences for patients with MUO.
