Dear UKAOS members,
You are invited to a UKAOS Educational Event
This live webinar will provide Acute Oncology Service (AOS) clinicians with practical guidance on the early recognition and management of non-immunotherapy drug-induced interstitial lung disease (ILD). Through multidisciplinary perspectives and case-based discussion, the session will explore how ILD presents in real-world acute settings and how to differentiate it from other common causes of breathlessness in oncology patients.
Wednesday 6th May 2026, 12:30 - 13:30
Chaired by:
Dr Caroline Wilson, Acute Oncology and Breast Medical Oncology Consultant, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust
Agenda:
Setting the scene: the breathless patient in AOS
Dr Caroline Wilson
This session will contextualise ILD within the common causes of acute breathlessness in oncology, including infection, PE and disease progression. It will also introduce immuno-oncology (IO)-induced vs non-IO pneumonitis, highlight the increasing relevance of non-IO ILD, and outline the clinical context of drug-induced ILD.
Seeing ILD through a respiratory lens
Professor Peter George, Consultant respiratory physician and Clinical lead for Interstitial Lung Disease, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust
Focused on real-world clinical practice, this session will explore how ILD presents, including key differentiators such as timing and severity, and why it is often missed. It will cover UKBCG guidance and highlight priorities, including red flags, imaging, early management and when to escalate.
Case-based ILD learning: putting it together
Ms Naomi Clatworthy, Acute Oncology Nurse Consultant, Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
Through a realistic ILD case, this session will support application in practice, working through assessment, differential diagnosis and decision-making. Imaging examples and discussion of early management and treatment will be covered, to reinforce clinical confidence.
Practical takeaways
All speakers
A panel discussion focused on key actions and clinical learnings, including when to suspect ILD, when to scan, when to initiate steroids and when to escalate.
Q&A
All speakers
An opportunity to ask questions and clarify key points with the faculty.
